Curry Recipe

Here's D's moms Curry recipe!

1/ 1 medium onion
2/ 1 tablespoon olive oil
3/ 1 yellow pepper
4/ 2 or 3 carrots
5/ 2 teaspoons curry paste
6/ 1 can coconut milk
5/ 4 boneless skinless chicken halves

To make:
Slice all the veggies. Saute together with the olive oil. Cut up the chicken and add to the veggies. Then add the coconut milk and curry paste. Voila! You're done! Then serve with naan or rice or both and it's yummy!
Together we each took a part in chopping up the vegetables ans stirring which took a good 20 minutes to the veggies well sautéed. Then came the adding of the spices and a lovely scent of the onions filled our noses. At the end the final product was a lovely orange color and tasted great against the sweet naan. Yum!

Kheer is the best!!!!

Namaste!
I made the kheer pudding just 5 minutes ago, and it was really good! Using the recipe I showed you of in the earlier post, it was quite easy to make. Basically you cooked rice in milk and added sugar and condensed milk and other toppings or mix-ins. In the recipe it called for cardamom spice, but I tried it in a with the kheer and personally, it wasn't good. But, when I replaced cardamon with cinnamon (like Khana Peena had used) it was delicious! It was a little sweet for my taste buds, and next time I'm going to add less condensed milk.
It is amazing how easy kheer is to make and I suggest using the recipe I used.
A slideshow is up!

My Opinion on India Food

Hi everybody!
So, now I realized that I haven't really talked about what I think about Indian food, and why I might like it (or why I might not). In fact, I really do like Indian food. I like it because of the spices and the spiciness...oh and, of course, because of the spiciness! I am a huge fan of ginger, which a popular ingredient in Indian cuisine. And their rice, their delicious basmati rice, with butter, is amazing! Oh gosh, and the mango lassi, one of my favorite drinks.

My Opinion

  1. I thought that I might include my personal thoughts on Indian food. I love Indian food because of the many flavors, from savory curry to sweet naan. It's amazing how the food tastes all together. Comment why you like Indian food.

Breads of India

Hi Everyone!
So, one of my favorite Indian restaurants is Breads of India. Therefore I decided to review this delicious Indian restaurant.

THE VIBE: The vibe is totally traditional. They hang Indian rugs, and they have Indian décor, with Asian styled chairs and tables. At the service table there are  traditional Indian candies: little colorful candied anise seeds, along with plain anise seeds.

PARKING: Parking is relatively relaxed. You can get a spot within a block or two of it (furthest). I usually get a spot right across the street from the restaurant.

THE SERVICE: The service is great! Everything arrives quite quickly. Sometimes it might take a little longer than desired, especially when you start to smell the totally delicious scent of the yummy Indian food, and you get really hungry!

THE FOOD: One word: Amazing. The samosas are really good. Especially with the tamarin sauce. There is also a lot of ginger in them, so if you have little tolerance for spicy food, then I suggest you do not order this appetizer. My favorite meal is the Chicken Tikki Masala, it comes with rice, a crunchy bread-like item, and a salad with mint sauce dressing. It tastes great if you dip garlic naan in it (or plain naan), or if you drizzle it over rice. My favorite drink is probably the mango lassi. Which is quite delicious. It is sweet and you can taste the delicious mango!

PRICE: The price is good. Not really cheap but not expensive either.

Overall this restaurant was probably a 5 out of 5. It was delicious.

OMG IT'S INDIAN PUDDING!

Hello hungry blog readers!
I thought it would be awesome if I made a post about kheer because we had it recently at Khana Peena. Kheer is an Indian rice pudding. It is also called payasam in southern India. It is a very common sweet dessert served quite hot. Here is the recipe I found from this site:
Ingredients
3 - 4 cups of whole milk, diluted with 1 - 2 cups of water (The proportion of water will determine the thickness of the Kheer.)
1 cup rice (it is best to use an Indian variety like basmati rice)
1 cup condensed milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon raisins
1 tablespoon of dry roasted cashew nut pieces. (Cashew nuts can be substituted with almonds or pistachio)

1 teaspoon finely powdered elaichi (cardamom) seeds

I will soon be making this at home using this website's recipe. I''l write up my thoughts on the dish and comparison between Khana Peena.

Flavors Of India

L and I visited Flavors of India. I was impressed with the simple yet great decor.

THE VIBE: I loved the decor. The walls were covered in lovely red stenciled designs. The plates and bolls looked authentic.

PARKING: The parking wasn't too hard to find. I did have to tromp through bushes to get to the sidewalk though.

FOOD: The food was well balanced and delicious. It was the perfect combination of sweet and savory. The chicken curry arrived and was creamy mixed with a variety of seasonal vegetables. L had a vibrent orange Tikka Masala that had the common characteristics of Tikka Masala, creamy sweet and salty. The naan came in garlic and plain and both were really good. The food was warm and made you crave more.

SERVICE: The service was quick and good.

Overall rating would be 4 stars.
